Torenia Seeds

Torenia fournieri

Torenia has bright and quirky flowers that are upturned and give rise to many common names. When the upper petal of the Torenia is bent back it discloses a wishbone formed by two stamens and that is why it is called the wishbone. You can have jointed stems or broken off can be easily rooted. Just place the stems into moist soil after dusting with a hormone powder. Wishbone flowers are perfect for the semi-shaded areas in the garden where the soil is moist. They are also lovely in window and porch boxes or pots. The wild wishbone flower was originally from southeastern Asia, Viet Nam in particular. Feed every couple weeks with a fertilizer high in potassium to promote flowering, and pinch off stem tips to increase bushiness. Hardiness is  USDA Zones 6 - 9.
